CROOKS/FOWLER QUINTET: Salute to Al & Zoot
"Crooks’s tenor raises the hairs on the neck" LONDON JAZZ NEWS
"Fowler’s tone is broad, warm and juicy, a perfect fit for his calm, measured phrasing" OBSERVER
Witty, tuneful and unfailingly swinging, the legendary 28-year Al Cohn/Zoot Sims tenor saxophone partnership specialised in good-natured, cultured, straight-ahead jazz. The magnificent Mark Crooks (John Wilson Orchestra, Jazz at the Movies) and Robert Fowler (Pasadena Roof Orchestra, Humphrey Lyttelton) revisit Al and Zoot’s uniquely appealing music with heart, warmth and consummate artistry.

Taking their cue from Django Reinhardt’s war-years line-up, where Hubert Rostaing’s clarinet replaced Stephane Grapelli’s violin, the Djangoliers specialize in performing music both written and inspired by the late, great Belgian guitarist. As well as performing many of Django’s classic arrangements and compositions such as ‘Nuages’, ‘Swing 42’ and ‘Manoir Des Mes Rêves’, they also perform tunes from the more contemporary canon of the style now known as ‘Gypsy Jazz’.

"One of Britain's best singer-pianists" EVENING STANDARD
"Over and above his impish arpeggios, droll introductions and left-handed singing the thing that fascinates me about Mr. Ingham is his erudition" JAZZ JOURNAL
The songs of Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, AKA Steely Dan, stood alone in 1970s rock; musically sophisticated, lyrically cryptic and deeply influenced by, in their own words, “the best jazz players of the ‘50s and ‘60s”. Steely Jazz re-examines the Dan canon, illuminating the singular melodies, lush harmonies and exploring the small jazz group possibilities of an incomparably rich songbook. Featuring well-known pieces (“Rikki Don’t Lose That Number”, “Josie”), alongside classic tracks and deep cuts from the masterpiece albums Aja, Gaucho, Countdown To Ecstasy, et al, Steely Jazz is a fresh, exciting celebration of two giants of 20th Century popular music.

"Allison Neale plays the alto saxophone with a tone so light and airy it positively melts at the edges" OBSERVER
US-born, London-based saxophonist Allison Neale is widely regarded as one of the finest exponents of the melodic, West Coast style on today’s scene. Her acclaimed 2020 album Quietly There saluted the exquisite 1960s collaborations between martini-cool altoist Paul Desmond and profoundly creative guitarist Jim Hall while her current quartet features some of the most experienced, expressive and empathetic musicians in the UK.
